New Mexico Leather League
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (EDIB) Agreement
At New Mexico Leather League (NMLL), we value diversity within our
community. To best serve others, we have made a commitment to be
inclusive and equitable when planning events for our members and
attendees. Diversity does not refer to a person of color or a marginalized
group of people. Rather, diversity refers to the condition when individuals or
communities from different backgrounds, cultures, frames of reference,
social identities, or perspectives come together in a social context.
As an instructor or volunteer for NMLL, you are an extension of NMLL and
therefore are required to uphold NMLL’s EDIB values in the following ways:
· Respect gender identities and people’s preferred pronouns. This means
that even if someone uses a pronoun you don’t agree with, you will honor
them by using the pronouns they prefer, whether you are in their presence
or not.
· Homophobia and racism are not tolerated within NMLL. Please refrain
from using racial or homophobic slurs, impressions, jokes, etc. while
presenting or volunteering with NMLL.
· Please try to be inclusive when instructing by talking about different
body types, genders, colors of skin (i.e. how darker skin presents after
being struck or while being tied vs. lighter skin), disabilities, etc.
· Leave bias at the door. When you present or volunteer for NMLL, please
do your very best not to judge people based on their appearance or the
way they talk.
· If someone has a differing opinion from yours, regardless of race,
gender, disability, etc., please listen and respect their position as no two
people are alike, and every voice has value. You do not have to agree with
everyone, but you should be respectful and open-minded.
